Interesting.

You can buy your way to success in most professions.

The beauty of picking comedy is that whatever success he is able to develop will truly be his own.

Knowing you’ll never have to worry about money due to inheritance is freeing.

But, the weight of knowing whether he got his PM job in software because (that’s Ballmers kid) must have been heavy.

He seems like a decent enough bloke!

Yep sounds like full credit to Steve and Connie Ballmer for raising their children as decent citizens.

They raised him right. Typically takes a lot of time wisdom and luck to get to that level of self comfort with the basics. It's a soulful choice that can influence all walks of life to harmony, if only more widely the case.

> Pete said that his parents were not accustomed to 'having a lot of money' and so raised their family how they themselves had been raised - including not talking about wealth.

Not talking about wealth, does anyone else think this is a stupid mistake? My parents did a lot of other things right, but not teaching me about money hindered me in life. I guess Steve Ballmer was educated the same way in that respect, but since it turned out fine for him he never saw how it could've been detrimental not understanding money, if he didn't have so much of it.

If they didn't talk about managing money at all, I'd agree.

If he just meant they didn't focus on how they have lots more of it than most, that'a another matter.

My son will have more than I did, though not enough to not work, and we talk about saving etc. but not about specifics. He doesn't know what I plan on handing him when he's an adult, or what he can expect to inherit, just general advice. It'd be the same conversation, mostly, if we had 1/10th or 10x as much.
